Fall Move Out

The following information below is for residents permanently leaving the university and on-campus housing after Fall 2017 quarter.  

All residents who are graduating, studying abroad, or otherwise leaving their on-campus housing for approved reasons and not returning for Winter Quarter, will need to do the following:

  1. Be sure you have signed a Housing Contract Cancellation form in the College Nine and College Ten Housing Office. *Required before moving out. If you have not done this yet, come to the Housing Office and see the Housing Coordinator

  2. Move out of your room no later than 12:00pm Noon Saturday, December 16th.  


The Move Out procedure is as follows:


  1. Completed the Housing Contract Cancellation form in the College Nine and College Ten Housing Office. 

  2. Sign up for a time to check out with your RA: Calendar schedules will be posted on RA doors in the Residence Halls and in common areas in the Apartments and ILC starting Wednesday, November 29th. You must sign up for a time giving a minimum of 24-hours’ notice, so plan ahead!  If your RA is not available when you need to check out, talk to them and they will assist you in signing up with another RA for the time you desire. No checkouts are permitted between Midnight - 8:00 am. The Housing Office cannot check you out, you MUST find an RA. Remember your checkout appointment!

  3. Before checking out of your room with your RA, please ensure:

  • You have removed all personal belongings from inside drawers, desks, closets, etc.

  • All trash and recycling has been removed and placed in the designated dumpster.

  • Your space has been thoroughly cleaned, dusted and vacuumed, drawers and tabletops wiped clean.

  • All posters, wall hangings, tape residue, etc. are removed from the walls, ceilings, etc.

  • All original furniture is in the room and arranged in its original state.

    If the above items are not completed, the RA will not check you out of your space and you will have to reschedule your appointment time.  

During your checkout appointment, your RA will collect your key(s) and walk through your space with a Room Condition Form (RCF).  Once you have signed your RCF, turned in your key(s), and confirmed you have signed a Housing Contract Cancellation Form, you have completed the Fall Move Out process!

Fall Housing Contract Extension Requests:

A limited number of pre-approved students will be allowed to remain in residence through Monday, December 18th 8:00am.  To apply for an extension, you must log in to studenthousing.ucsc.edu beginning November 20th and follow the link for fall quarter housing contract extensions.

  • Deadline to apply for an extension is Friday, December 8th

  • Not every request will be approved, so please wait for confirmation before you make travel plans.

  • If approved, you will receive an approval confirmation email.  You must have received approval before Friday, December 15th in order to be allowed to stay.  Be prepared to show you approval email to staff in the event you are asked for it.  

  • If you are found in your room after 12:00pm Noon on Saturday, December 16th and have not been previously approved for an extension, you will be escorted off campus.
