ENGAGE (Explore New Growth and Gain Experience) is a leadership program for College Ten students that met weekly in Fall Quarter. ENGAGE offers students an opportunity to develop their leadership skills, explore their relationship to social justice and community, and allows students to gather the resources to become better citizens.

This year students worked closely with the Nueva Vista Beach Flats Community Center, a community resource center that serves low-income families in Santa Cruz. Through various efforts, students fundraised enough money to provide multiple families with meals for this year’s holiday season. Some of these efforts included hosting a benefit show featuring Los Angeles artist, Irene Diaz, and a sale of gently used items held in collaboration with the College Ten Senate. Nicole Barron (class of ’16) says that working closely with her team to create the show that would benefit children and their families was her favorite part of being in ENGAGE this year.

ENGAGE students were very active within the College Ten community throughout Fall Quarter to fundraise, publicize their events and educate other students on ways to serve families in need within our local community. Students also hosted a holiday activity with the families and children they were serving, creating fun and delicious gingerbread houses that everyone could enjoy!
