Things to Remember...

THE UC SANTA CRUZ HOUSING CONTRACT IS LEGALLY BINDING FOR ONE FULL ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR.

Once you take residence in your room, your contract becomes active.

(Exemptions from this include: students who leave UCSC to study abroad, International exchange students who are only studying at UCSC for 1 or 2 quarters, students who withdraw or take a leave of absence and students who graduate mid-year.)

Canceling your housing contract once you have taken residence for any other reason besides the ones listed above may be approved, and only under very specific circumstances. Students must submit a formal request through their College Housing Office, and provide documentation to support their claims. These request are reviewed and determined by the college ACAO and Campus Housing Office. Be sure to read your housing contract thoroughly to understand the parameters of your contract and your rights and responsibilities.

  • Fill out the housing application questionnaire thoroughly and honestly. Your roommate(s) may change throughout the year and you should expect the possibility that you could receive a new roommate at any time.  We use your housing application year round to make the best roommate matches possible.

  • Meal Plans are required for all residents in both the Residence Halls and the Apartments. Residence Hall residents must choose either the 7-day or the 5-day meal plan. Apartment residents must choose the 7-day, 5-day or 55-day meal plan. Remember that you can upgrade your meal plan at any time, but you can only downgrade to a cheaper meal plan during certain periods of time each quarter, and it doesn’t take effect until the following quarter.

  • You might not find housing during room selection. Don’t worry! Many people cancel their housing over the summer.  You will be automatically placed on a waitlist and the Housing Coordinator will work with you over the summer to find the best room available to assign you to before next school year starts.
