Bettina Aptheker named 2016 Commencement Speaker

Bettina Aptheker is Distinguished Professor of Feminist Studies at UCSC, and is co-Chair of the UC Presidential Chair in Feminist Critical Race & Ethnic Studies (2012-2016).
She has taught at UCSC for 37 years. All the lectures for her popular course, Introduction to Feminism were filmed and made available on a DVD set. The author of seven books, and numerous articles, her most recent book is a memoir, Intimate Politics: How I Grew Up Red, Fought for Free Speech and Became A Feminist Rebel. Her current research is on queer folks who were active in U.S. radical politics beginning in the early 20th century. Professor Aptheker is affiliated with the Department of History, the Jewish Studies Program, and the program in Critical Race & Ethnic Studies.
