I've heard UC Santa Cruz has a new policy on smoking and other tobacco products. Can I use tobacco products on campus?

On January 2nd, 2014 all UC campuses, buildings, and owned/operated properties are smoke and tobacco-free environments. All smoking, use of smokeless tobacco products and the use of unregulated nicotine products (including "e-cigarettes") is prohibited on the UC Santa Cruz campus.

For more information, visit the tobacco-free UCSC page or the state wide UC system page.

Do I need to buy tickets? Is there a limit to how many people can attend? Can I reserve seats? When should I arrive?

No tickets are necessary to attend the College Ten Commencement Ceremony.

There is no limit to the number of people who can attend. However, due to the extremely limited parking available on campus, we can only provide two parking permits per graduate.

There are no seat reservations for the general audience.

The West Field will open for guest seating at 12:30pm.

How will parking work during Commencement Weekend?

Please visit our Commencement Parking FAQ.

Each graduate will be issued two parking passes. Due to the extremely limited parking available on campus, and the massive influx of people during Commencement Weekend, we are unable to offer additional parking passes under any circumstances

If you would like to have more than two carloads of people, here are some options:

  • The Santa Cruz Metro Transit District buses will be running during Commencement Weekend, and all campus routes will be fare-free. Guest could park downtown and take free public transport up to campus. For information about Metro buses, please visit scmtd.com. For information about parking in downtown Santa Cruz, please visit the city's parking website.

  • Your guests could meet at an off-campus location and ferry carloads of guests up to campus.

  • You could rent a six person van* to fit more people into the two allotted parking spaces (*note: larger vans, limos and RVs have to park at the base of campus in the Barn Theater or Granary parking lots.)

There will be disability parking near the ceremony site. A shuttle service to the ceremony site will be available. In order to use these spaces a College Ten Disability Parking Pass will be required. College Ten Disability Parking Passes can be requested by graduates when they pick up their parking passes. It will replace one (or both) of the standard parking passes they would otherwise receive.

Please observe all parking regulations. For the most current information, please refer here.

Is there parking for RVs and other large vehicles?

All large vehicles (i.e. RVs, limos and 8+ person vans) will be directed to the Barn Theater or Granary parking lots at the base of campus. They are not permitted to park in the standard commencement parking lots.

Is there a reception after the Commencement Ceremony?

All College Ten graduates and their family and guests are invited to a reception that immediately follows the Commencement Ceremony. The reception will be held on the Oakes Lawn. Light refreshments will be provided. No RSVPs or tickets are required.

Where can I stay in Santa Cruz?

Santa Cruz has a wide range of housing options for it's guests but they do tend to fill up quickly on Commencement Weekend. Here is a link to many of your options: Santa Cruz Lodging.

How do I get to UC Santa Cruz and the College Ten Commencement?

Visit the UC Santa Cruz websites for maps and directions. The College Ten Commencement Ceremony will be held at the West Field. Once on campus you will be directed by parking attendants to designated parking lots. Please make sure your parking pass is clearly visible on your dashboard. A shuttle service will be provided to and from the West Field.

If guests require special accommodations, what steps should I take?

College Ten wishes to make this graduation ceremony accessible to all of our graduating seniors, their families, and guests. If a graduate or their guest(s) require the services of a sign language interpreter, the graduate should indicate this in the appropriate section of the College Ten Commencement Registration form. If you require trasportation to the ceremony site from your vehicle, vans and wheelchairs will be available. If you require special seating, your graduate can request accomodation in the appropriate section of the Commencement Registration form.

What will the weather be like? What if it rains?

Santa Cruz weather is unpredictable, especially between mornings and afternoons. Layers are highly recommended. It can be cool and foggy in the mornings and sunny and hot in the afternoon. The College Ten Commencement Ceremony will proceed rain or shine.

Are dogs or other pets allowed at the ceremony?

Only animals utilized for disability accommodations services as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act are allowed (details here).

UCSC has a "no pets" policy that is strictly enforced. Visitors that enter campus with a pet will be asked to leave. There are several pet hotels in Santa Cruz County equipped to board your pets. Please check local listings.

What if I've lost something at the ceremony?

During the ceremony there will be a "Lost and Found" located at the Info Table. After the ceremony any "Lost and Found" items worth over $300 will be taken to the campus police station. For more information, click here. All items worth less than $300 will be kept by the College Nine and College Ten Activities Office for 30 days after which they will be donated to a local charity.

Will there be a professional photographer at the Commencement Ceremony?
